Eid Mubarak

Eid-ul-Fitr is the Muslim day of celebration (similar to Christmas). It comes right after the month of Ramazan (where we fast for 30 or 29 days from sunrise to sunset).

On this day, Muslims all over the world exchange greetings, gifts and rejoice with their friends and family. We also give charity (zakkat) to the poor so that they too could enjoy the blessings of this cheerful day. So Eid Mubarak [Happy Eid] to all :)

My sweetheart sugarlips put mehndi on her hands. On Eid women do this to show a state of delight and festivity. You look beautiful as always :) smoooch

At first the mehndi (henna) is dark and solidifies over over a few hours. And then you simply wash your hands.

This picture is after washing the hands. The solid henna falls off leaving this beautiful color in pattern. The longer you keep the henna on, the darker the color outcome.

Eid Mubarak!
Made me rememebr the 1994 Eid-ul-Fitr, when I was running an educational project for refugees in Westminster, London. The Muslims from all over the world put on an Eid party not just for themselves, but for all of the rest of us. Can you imagine? Afghans, Turks, Bosnians, Lebanese, Algerians, Iraqis, Syrians, Egyptians, then their 'guests' from all over Europe, Africa & Latin & Central America! What a swell party that was! The food! The music, the dancing! There was nothing wrong with the world that afternoon, it was wonderful.-And thanks Nabeel for reminding me of it! Sharing makes friends and banishes enemies.

the designs are beautiful! If I remember correctly, a doctor I worked with had that done for an Indian wedding she was in. It was very intricate and beautiful as well.

Eid Mubarak! Or as you say Happy Eid. Thank you for commenting on my post at Overwhelmed with Joy. I was her guest blogger for today.

It is wonderful today that you have also fasted and prayed for this great nation of ours that allows freedom of speech and religion.

We also give much to the poor during our Christmas Holiday. It is a tradition as well.

May our Creator bless you abundantly!

Happy Eid, Nabeel.

Henna designs are lovely. I like the idea of something that isn't permanent, something to highlight and celebrate a special time.

I was living inMarroco during two years and was working there.
There were free days for Muslim religious fests and not for Christian ones it's quite normal.

However I cannot remember if Christmas was free too. It's like halloween now sometimes, even unreligious persons celebrate that date. Because of the gifts and the turkey.

Pretty hands.

I have seen this henna body painting before and I realize that eventually it wears off. What I find the most interesting is the beautiful art work that people make of it and I wonder if everyone is talented in artwork that does it or are there people that do it for them? Interesting post Nabeel the only other place I have seen this was on a T.V. show a long time ago but I can't remember what Nationality of the people, I believe there is more then one culture of people that do this. Am I right? Anyway I think it's lovely.

What a lovely religion. I think it's great to have a day to celebrate, give to the poor, and just reflect in general on life and happiness. I love it, everyone should celebrate this, no matter what religion.

The designs on your sweethearts hands are beautiful. How long would something like that take?

Hi Nabeel, Thanks for stopping by my blog. The henna on the hands looks beautiful. I like the look. Our daughter brought home some henna one time. Somewhere in the process my wife and I ended up with Pyar tattooed on our forearms. Lasted about six weeks.
